Rose Geranium Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Rose Geranium Oil is a sweet, rosy, green and slightly minty essential oil steam distilled from the leaves of Pelargonium graveolens and its rose-scented hybrids, such as Pelargonium x asperum. It is prized for its strong rose character and is used in perfumery, skin care, soaps, aromatherapy and natural personal care products.
Arizone International supplies Rose Geranium Oil for perfumers, skin care and cosmetic brands, soap makers and aromatherapy companies.
What Makes It "Rose" Geranium?
There are many scented pelargoniums, with smells ranging from lemon and mint to apple and nutmeg. Rose geranium refers to the varieties whose leaves smell most strongly of rose. Their oil is higher in citronellol and geraniol, the same compounds that give rose oil its scent. For this reason, rose geranium oil is often used to create or extend rose accords in perfumes at a much lower cost than true rose oil.
About the Plant
Pelargoniums are native to South Africa. The plants were brought to Europe in the 1600s, and French perfumers began distilling them in the 19th century, first in France and later on Réunion Island, which became famous for "Bourbon geranium" oil. Today, rose geranium oil is produced in Egypt, China, South Africa, Madagascar and India. In India, it is grown in the Nilgiris of Tamil Nadu, in Karnataka and in the hills of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and Indian research institutes have developed improved high-yield varieties.
