Calendula Oil is a soothing botanical oil made from the bright orange flowers of Calendula officinalis, the pot marigold. Most calendula oil sold for skin care is an infused oil, made by steeping the dried flowers in a carrier oil such as sunflower or olive oil. A true calendula essential oil and a CO2 extract also exist but are rare. It is widely used in skin care, baby care, balms and natural cosmetics.
Arizone International supplies Calendula Oil in infused and extract forms for cosmetic manufacturers, skin care and baby care brands, and private label companies.
About Calendula
Calendula is native to southern Europe and is grown in gardens all over the world, including India. It should not be confused with the common Indian marigold (genda, Tagetes species), which is a different plant used widely for garlands; Tagetes is the source of tagetes oil. Calendula flowers have been used for centuries in European folk tradition for the skin, and the petals were even used to colour butter and cheese.

Traditional Use and Research
Calendula has a long history in European folk tradition for soothing the skin. The European Medicines Agency recognises calendula flower as a traditional herbal medicine for minor skin inflammation and small wounds, based on long-standing use. Laboratory and clinical studies have also explored calendula preparations for skin care. These are not medical claims for a specific product.
Safety
Calendula oil is usually well tolerated, but people allergic to plants of the daisy family (Asteraceae), such as chamomile, arnica or ragweed, may react to it. A patch test is recommended. Keep away from eyes.
