Kali Musli is the dried rhizome of Curculigo orchioides, a small herb known in Ayurveda as Talamuli. Its name means "black musli", which sets it apart from Safed (white) Musli, and it is traditionally used as a rasayana, or rejuvenating herb, in vitality formulations.
Arizone International supplies Kali Musli to herbal, Ayurvedic, food and nutraceutical manufacturers, traders, private label brands and bulk buyers. Grade, cut size, cleaning level, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Curculigo orchioides is a small, stemless herb with long, grass-like leaves and yellow star-shaped flowers. It grows wild in the forests and grasslands of India, especially in the Himalayan foothills and central and southern India. The underground rhizome is dark brown to black on the outside, which gives it its name.
The rhizome contains phenolic glycosides such as curculigoside, along with saponins and other compounds. In Ayurveda, Kali Musli is used in vitality and strength formulations, often together with Safed Musli, Ashwagandha and Shatavari.
After harvest, the material is dried in the sun or shade, then cleaned to remove stones, dust, stems and other foreign matter, and sorted by size and quality. It can be supplied whole, cut into smaller pieces for tea and extraction, or milled into coarse or fine powder. For food and ready-to-use products, steam sterilisation can be arranged to bring microbial counts within export limits.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Safety data on Kali Musli is limited, so it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and people taking medication should consult a healthcare professional.
Kali Musli is often wild-harvested, so ask about legal collection and sustainable sourcing.
Ask for identity testing, as rhizomes of other plants are sometimes sold in its place.
Kali Musli is usually milled to 60 to 80 mesh for churnas and capsules, and it is often combined with Safed Musli, Ashwagandha, Shatavari and Gokshura in traditional vitality blends. Store the dried rhizome in lined bags in a cool, dry place to prevent insect damage and mould.
