Indian Frankincense Resin is the natural oleo-gum resin of Boswellia serrata, known in India as Salai Guggul. It is the raw material for Boswellia extract, one of the most popular joint wellness ingredients, and it is also used in Ayurvedic preparations and incense.
Arizone International supplies Indian Frankincense Resin to herbal, Ayurvedic, food and nutraceutical manufacturers, traders, private label brands and bulk buyers. Grade, cut size, cleaning level, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Boswellia serrata is a medium-sized tree that grows in the dry hill forests of central and western India, especially Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Tappers make small cuts in the bark, and a milky resin seeps out and hardens into yellowish-brown tears and lumps, which are collected and sorted by size and colour.
The resin contains boswellic acids, including AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid), along with essential oil and gum. Boswellic acid content is the main quality measure for extraction grades.
After harvest, the material is dried in the sun or shade, then cleaned to remove stones, dust, stems and other foreign matter, and sorted by size and quality. It can be supplied whole, cut into smaller pieces for tea and extraction, or milled into coarse or fine powder. For food and ready-to-use products, steam sterilisation can be arranged to bring microbial counts within export limits.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Boswellia resin can cause stomach upset in some people, and it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
Indian frankincense (Boswellia serrata) is different from Arabian or African frankincense (Boswellia sacra or carterii), so use the botanical name on contracts.
Resin collection should be done without damaging the trees; ask about legal and sustainable tapping practices.
Resin grades are usually sorted by colour and size, with lighter, larger tears valued most for incense and premium uses, and mixed pieces used for extraction. Store the resin cool, as it softens and sticks together in hot weather, and keep it sealed to protect its aroma.
