Dried Bitter Gourd, known in India as Karela, is made from the green, knobbly fruit of Momordica charantia. It is one of the most bitter vegetables eaten anywhere, and in dried form it is used for herbal teas, powders, capsules and traditional wellness products, as well as in cooking.

Arizone International supplies Dried Bitter Gourd (Karela) to herbal, Ayurvedic, food and nutraceutical manufacturers, traders, private label brands and bulk buyers. Grade, cut size, cleaning level, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.

What Is

Bitter gourd is a climbing vine of the gourd family, grown widely across India, South-East Asia, China and Africa. The fruits are harvested while still green and firm, washed, sliced and dehydrated at controlled temperatures. Drying keeps much of the fruit's green colour and its famous bitter taste.

The fruit contains charantin, polypeptide-p, vicine and other plant compounds. In Ayurveda and traditional Asian practice, bitter gourd has long been used for blood sugar and digestive wellness, and today it is a common ingredient in blood sugar support products.

After harvest, the material is dried in the sun or shade, then cleaned to remove stones, dust, stems and other foreign matter, and sorted by size and quality. It can be supplied whole, cut into smaller pieces for tea and extraction, or milled into coarse or fine powder. For food and ready-to-use products, steam sterilisation can be arranged to bring microbial counts within export limits.
