Celery Seeds are the tiny, ribbed, light brown seeds (technically fruits) of Apium graveolens. Although small, they carry a strong, warm, slightly bitter aroma of celery, and they are an important spice in pickling, seasonings and processed foods, as well as a raw material for celery seed oil and extract.
Arizone International supplies whole Celery Seeds in bulk, cleaned and graded, for spice companies, food manufacturers, oil and extract processors, herbal brands, wholesalers and exporters.
India: A Major Source of Celery Seed
The celery grown for seed is not the same as the thick-stalked salad celery found in Western supermarkets. It is a smaller, leafier type grown mainly for its seeds. India is one of the world's leading producers and exporters of celery seed, with cultivation concentrated in Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh. The crop is sown in winter and harvested in spring. In Hindi, celery seed is often called ajmod.
Celery seed is so small that there are well over a million seeds in a kilogram, which is why a little goes a long way in cooking.

- Fixed Oil and FibreMaking up much of the seed.

- Traditional herbal preparations
In traditional herbal practice in Europe and India, celery seed has been used as a digestive and a mild diuretic, and it appears in some folk remedies for joint comfort.
Allergen Note
Celery, including celery seed, is one of the major food allergens that must be declared on labels in the European Union and the United Kingdom. Food manufacturers using celery seed should follow allergen labelling rules in their market.
Safety Note for Herbal Use
Concentrated celery seed preparations are traditionally avoided during pregnancy. People with kidney problems or those on diuretics, blood thinners or thyroid medicine should consult a doctor before using celery seed supplements.
