Sesame Seeds are the small, flat, oil-rich seeds of Sesamum indicum, one of the oldest oilseed crops in the world. Known in India as til, they are used in sweets, breads, tahini, halva and oil, and are one of India's most important agricultural exports.
Arizone International supplies natural, hulled and black Sesame Seeds in bulk, Sortex-cleaned to export standards, for bakeries, confectionery and snack makers, tahini producers, oil mills, wholesalers and exporters.
India and Sesame
Sesame has been grown in India since ancient times, and charred seeds have been found at Harappan sites. India is one of the largest producers and exporters of sesame seed. Gujarat is a key trading hub, with markets such as Unjha and Rajkot, while production also comes from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. In Indian culture, til is especially important during Makar Sankranti, when til laddoos, til chikki and til gud are shared with the saying "til gul ghya, god god bola", "take sesame and jaggery, and speak sweetly".

Export Food Safety
Sesame seed exports face strict checks, particularly in the European Union, which has increased controls on Indian sesame after past issues with Salmonella and ethylene oxide residues. Reputable exporters now use steam sterilisation rather than ethylene oxide and provide full laboratory reports for pesticides, Salmonella and aflatoxins. We follow these practices for export orders.
Allergen Note
Sesame is a declared food allergen in the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and, since 2023, the United States.
Quality Parameters
- Purity (for example 99.90% to 99.95% for hulled)
- Moisture and oil content
- Free fatty acids
- Salmonella, aflatoxins and pesticide residues, including ethylene oxide
- Colour and uniformity
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Specify natural or hulled, white or black, and the purity you need. For export, ask for steam-sterilised seed and pesticide and ethylene oxide test results, as buyers in the EU check these closely.
