Arjuna Bark Powder is made from the dried inner and outer bark of Terminalia arjuna, a tall evergreen tree that grows along rivers and streams across India. It is a reddish-brown, slightly astringent powder and one of the best-known Ayurvedic herbs for heart wellness.

Arizone International supplies Arjuna Bark Powder in bulk to Ayurvedic manufacturers, supplement brands, herbal tea makers and exporters, with custom mesh sizes and packing.

About the Arjuna Tree

Arjuna is a large tree that can grow more than 20 metres tall, with smooth, greyish bark that peels off in flakes. It is common along river banks in central and southern India, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Odisha. The tree is named after Arjuna, the hero of the Mahabharata. Its leaves are also used to feed the silkworms that produce tasar silk.

The bark is collected carefully in strips so that the tree can regrow it. It is then cleaned, dried in the shade and milled into powder.

Traditional Use

In Ayurveda, Arjuna has been used for centuries as a heart tonic. Classical texts describe preparations such as Arjuna ksheerapaka, in which the bark is boiled with milk, and Arjunarishta, a fermented tonic. These are traditional uses and not approved medical claims.

Key Compounds

  • TanninsGive the bark its astringent taste and reddish colour.
  • TriterpenoidsSuch as arjunolic acid, arjunic acid and arjungenin, which are characteristic of Arjuna.
  • Flavonoids and GlycosidesIncluding arjunetin.
  • MineralsThe bark is naturally rich in calcium and also contains magnesium and zinc.

Applications

  • Heart wellness capsules and tablets
  • Ayurvedic churnas, kwaths and arishtas
  • Herbal teas and decoctions, including Arjuna tea with milk
  • Nutraceutical blends with garlic, CoQ10 or hawthorn
  • Arjuna extract production
  • Private label herbal ranges

Research Interest

Laboratory and small clinical studies have looked at Terminalia arjuna for heart and circulation support. The evidence is still limited, and anyone with a heart condition should use Arjuna only under medical advice, as it may interact with heart and blood pressure medicines.
