Kalmegh Powder is made from Andrographis paniculata, a plant widely recognised in traditional herbal practice. Commonly known as Kalmegh or the "King of Bitters", this botanical is valued for its naturally occurring plant compounds and its long role in traditional herbal preparations.
Known for its intensely bitter profile, Kalmegh is used as a raw material for herbal products, Ayurvedic-inspired formulations, nutraceutical applications and custom wellness products. Arizone International offers Kalmegh Powder, as well as whole and cut herb, for manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, herbal brands and nutraceutical companies.
What Is Kalmegh?
Andrographis paniculata is an annual herb that grows up to about a metre tall, with slender square stems, narrow leaves and small white-and-purple flowers. It is found across India and Sri Lanka and is widely cultivated in Southeast Asia. In Hindi it is called Kalmegh, meaning "dark cloud", and in Tamil nilavembu. Nilavembu kudineer, a traditional Siddha decoction in which kalmegh is a key herb, became widely known in Tamil Nadu during seasonal fever outbreaks.
The aerial parts (leaves and stems) are harvested, usually around flowering, then cleaned, dried and ground into a fine green powder. Unlike a concentrated extract, the powder keeps the full natural profile of the plant.
