About Jatamansi
Jatamansi is a small perennial herb that grows at altitudes of about 3,000 to 5,000 metres in the Himalayas of Nepal, India (Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim), Bhutan and Tibet. Its rhizomes are covered in reddish-brown, hair-like fibres, which gives it its Sanskrit name, from "jata", meaning matted hair. The roots have a strong, earthy, musky smell. Spikenard was traded from India to ancient Egypt and Rome and is mentioned in the Bible as a costly perfume.

How Jatamansi Extract Is Made
Dried roots and rhizomes are extracted with water-alcohol. The extract is concentrated and dried into a dark brown powder with the characteristic earthy aroma of the herb. Ratio extracts are the most common, and marker-based grades are available on request.
