Cumin Seed Extract
Part of our Herbal Extracts range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Cumin Seed Extract is made from the small, ridged seeds of Cuminum cyminum, the spice every Indian kitchen knows as jeera. Its earthy, warm aroma is the base of countless tadkas, and the concentrated extract brings that same flavour and profile to food, supplement and personal-care products.
Arizone International manufactures and exports Cumin Seed Extract from India, with powder, oleoresin and custom grades available for bulk buyers.
Why Indian Cumin?
India produces most of the world's cumin, and almost all of it comes from Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Unjha market in north Gujarat is the main trading hub and sets prices for much of the global cumin trade. The crop is sown in winter and harvested in early spring, when the dry climate helps the seeds develop their strong aroma.
Cumin is one of the oldest spices in use. Seeds have been found at archaeological sites in Syria and Egypt dating back thousands of years, and the spice is mentioned in the Bible and in ancient Greek writing.
Key Compounds in Cumin
- CuminaldehydeThe main aroma compound that gives cumin its typical smell.
- TerpenesIncluding gamma-terpinene, beta-pinene and p-cymene.
- Flavonoids and Phenolic CompoundsAdd to cumin's antioxidant properties.
- Fixed Oil and FibrePresent in whole seed and in some lower-ratio extracts.
Forms Available
- Cumin seed extract powder, as 4:1, 10:1 or custom ratios
- Cumin oleoresin for food processors who want strong, even flavour
- Spray-dried cumin flavour on a carrier

Applications
Cumin is used for flavour in most of the food world, from Indian curries to Mexican chili and Middle Eastern falafel. As an extract, it gives processors consistent strength without handling bulk seed. In Ayurveda, jeera is known as a digestive spice, and jeera water is a familiar home remedy after a heavy meal.

Quality Considerations
Cumin is a spice that is sometimes adulterated with cheaper seeds or grass seed. We buy from known traders, clean and inspect the seed, and test the finished extract for identity, moisture, heavy metals and microbial counts. Pesticide residue testing is available for export markets that require it. Keep the extract in closed packaging, away from heat and light, to protect its aroma.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
For supplements, cumin seed extract is often combined with black pepper and ginger in digestive blends. Ask for the solvent and marker compounds on the COA.
Keep packs sealed to protect aroma.
