Cloves Extract
Part of our Herbal Extracts range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Cloves Extract is made from the dried flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum. Cloves are small, but their aroma is powerful, and a large part of that strength comes from eugenol, the compound that makes cloves useful far beyond the kitchen, from toothpaste to natural preservatives.
Arizone International is a manufacturer, supplier and exporter of Cloves Extract from India. We offer powder extracts, oleoresin and eugenol-standardised grades for food, oral-care, cosmetic and nutraceutical buyers.
What Are Cloves?
Clove trees are evergreen and grow in warm, humid tropical climates. The buds are picked by hand while they are still pink and unopened, then dried in the sun until they turn dark brown. In India, cloves are grown mainly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, while global supply also comes from Indonesia, Madagascar and Zanzibar.
Cloves were among the most valuable goods of the ancient spice trade. Records show they reached China, India and the Roman world long before the modern era, and control over clove-growing islands was a major reason for colonial conflict in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Main Constituents
- EugenolThe dominant aroma compound, usually making up the majority of clove oil and a key marker in clove extracts.
- Eugenyl Acetate and Beta-CaryophylleneContribute to the rounded, warm note of cloves.
- Tannins and FlavonoidsGive cloves a noticeably astringent taste.
- Strong Antioxidant ProfileCloves score very high on laboratory antioxidant tests compared with most other spices.
Forms We Supply
- Cloves dry extract powder, as ratio grades or standardised to eugenol
- Clove oleoresin, a concentrated liquid used by food processors
- Water-soluble clove extract for beverages and oral rinses
- Custom forms as per formulation requirement
Applications
Clove is a familiar name in Indian households for a toothache home remedy, and that traditional use is reflected in modern oral care, where eugenol is well known in dental practice. Other uses include:
- Toothpaste, tooth powder, mouthwash and gum-care products
- Masala blends, meat marinades, bakery and confectionery
- Chai premixes and spiced beverages
- Natural antioxidants for oils and processed foods
- Digestive and seasonal wellness supplements
- Ayurvedic formulations such as Lavangadi Vati
- Pain-relief balms and massage products
- Natural insect-repellent products
Usage Tips
Clove flavour is strong, and overdosing can make a product taste medicinal or numbing. Start with low levels during trials. Eugenol can also irritate skin and mucous membranes in high concentrations, so cosmetic and oral-care products should be formulated within safe limits and tested before launch.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Ask for eugenol content on the COA, and keep packs sealed to protect aroma.
Clove extract is often used in oral care and digestive products.
