Palmarosa Oil is a sweet, rosy, floral and slightly grassy essential oil steam distilled from the leaves of Cymbopogon martinii var. motia, an aromatic grass native to India. It is one of the richest natural sources of geraniol and is widely used in perfumery, soaps, skin care, aromatherapy and as a natural rose note.
Arizone International supplies Indian Palmarosa Oil for fragrance houses, soap and cosmetic manufacturers, aromatherapy brands and aroma chemical users.
An Indian Oil
Palmarosa is native to India, where it grows wild in the dry forests of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, and is also cultivated. It is known locally as rosha grass or rusa grass. Historically, palmarosa oil was shipped from Bombay and sold in Turkey and Bulgaria, where it was sometimes used to extend or adulterate rose oil, giving it the name "Turkish geranium oil" or "East Indian geranium oil". India remains a major producer, along with Nepal, Brazil and Guatemala.
Palmarosa is a hardy crop that grows on poor soils with little water, and Indian research programmes such as the CSIR Aroma Mission promote it among farmers as a profitable crop for marginal land.
