Muguet Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Muguet Oil is a fresh, delicate, green and dewy floral fragrance oil that recreates the scent of lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis), known in French as muguet. The flower does not yield a usable natural oil, so muguet oil is a perfumery compound. It is one of the classic floral notes in perfumery and is used in perfumes, soaps, cosmetics, detergents and home fragrance.
Arizone International supplies Muguet fragrance oil for perfumers, soap and cosmetic manufacturers, detergent companies and home fragrance brands.
About Lily of the Valley
Lily of the valley is a small woodland plant native to Europe and Asia, with arching stems of tiny, bell-shaped white flowers and a sweet, fresh fragrance. In France, it is a tradition to give sprigs of muguet on 1 May as a symbol of luck and spring. The flower has featured in many famous perfumes and royal wedding bouquets. All parts of the plant are poisonous if eaten, but this does not affect muguet fragrance oils, which are made from safe aroma materials.
Why Muguet Is a Fragrance Compound
Lily of the valley is one of the classic "mute" flowers in perfumery. Its delicate scent cannot be captured commercially by distillation or extraction, so perfumers recreate it using aroma molecules that match its fresh, green, watery floral character. For many years, the aroma chemical lilial (butylphenyl methylpropional) was a key muguet ingredient, but it has been banned in cosmetics in the EU since 2022. Hydroxycitronellal and lyral were also important but are now restricted or banned. Modern muguet compounds use newer, compliant materials.

Compliant materials often used in modern muguet accords include hydroxycitronellal (within IFRA limits), florhydral, bourgeonal-type notes, citronellol, linalool and phenylethyl alcohol.
