Laurel Leaf Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Laurel Leaf Oil, also called Bay Laurel Oil, is a fresh, spicy, herbaceous and slightly camphoraceous essential oil steam distilled from the leaves of Laurus nobilis, the Mediterranean bay laurel tree. It is used in food flavours, perfumery, aromatherapy, soaps and personal care products.
Arizone International supplies Laurel Leaf Oil for flavour houses, fragrance companies, aromatherapy brands and cosmetic manufacturers.
About Bay Laurel
Bay laurel is an evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean. Its glossy, aromatic leaves are the familiar dried bay leaves used in soups, stews and sauces. In ancient Greece, laurel was sacred to the god Apollo, and laurel wreaths were given to champions and poets, which is where the words "laureate" and "baccalaureate" come from. The oil is produced mainly in Turkey, the Balkans, Morocco and other Mediterranean countries.
Bay Laurel vs Other "Bay" Oils
Laurel leaf oil should not be confused with West Indian bay oil (Pimenta racemosa), which is rich in eugenol and was used in classic bay rum aftershaves. It is also different from Indian bay leaf, tej patta (Cinnamomum tamala), which is a cinnamon-family leaf with a cinnamon-clove aroma used in Indian cooking. Please specify which "bay" oil you require.

Safety and Dilution
Laurel Leaf Oil can cause skin sensitisation in some people and should always be diluted. IFRA restricts the use of laurel leaf oil in fragrances. Methyl eugenol is also restricted in some markets. Oils high in 1,8-cineole should not be used on or near the face of young children. Not recommended during pregnancy. Use within IFRA standards and food flavour regulations. Keep out of reach of children.
Blending Tips
Laurel leaf blends well with rosemary, juniper, lavender, clary sage, cypress, bergamot, orange, clove and cinnamon.

- Specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation
- Aroma evaluation
- Food-grade compliance where required
Packaging and Storage
Supplied in aluminium bottles, HDPE containers or drums. Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
Turkish laurel leaf oil is the most widely traded grade today.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Laurel leaf oil is best used at low levels because of IFRA limits and its methyl eugenol content. In savoury flavours, it gives the familiar bay leaf note to soups, sauces and meat seasonings.
