Lavandin Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Lavandin Oil is a fresh, floral, herbaceous and slightly camphoraceous essential oil steam distilled from the flowering tops of Lavandula x intermedia, a natural hybrid of true lavender and spike lavender. It gives a much higher oil yield than true lavender, which makes it more affordable, and it is widely used in soaps, detergents, household products, perfumery and aromatherapy.
Arizone International supplies Lavandin Oil in Grosso, Abrial and Super varieties for soap and detergent manufacturers, household product brands, fragrance companies and aromatherapy businesses.
About Lavandin
Lavandin is a cross between true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), which grows at higher altitudes, and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia), which grows lower down. In areas where the two meet, bees naturally cross-pollinate them. The resulting hybrid is larger and more vigorous, and it produces much more oil. The famous purple fields of Provence in France are mostly lavandin. France and Spain are the main producers, with smaller amounts from Bulgaria and other countries.
Main Varieties
- Lavandin GrossoThe most widely grown and traded variety, with a strong, fresh, camphoraceous scent.
- Lavandin AbrialAn older variety with a fresh, slightly sharper profile.
- Lavandin SuperHigher in linalyl acetate and closer to true lavender, with a sweeter, softer scent.
Lavandin vs True Lavender
Lavandin contains more camphor and 1,8-cineole than true lavender, which gives it a sharper, more penetrating and herbal scent. True lavender is sweeter, softer and more floral. Lavandin is often used in household and industrial products, while true lavender is preferred for fine perfumery and gentle aromatherapy.
Aroma and Composition
- LinaloolUsually 25% to 40%, giving a fresh floral note.
- Linalyl AcetateUsually 20% to 35%, adding sweetness.
- CamphorUsually 5% to 12%, giving a fresh, camphoraceous character.
- 1,8-CineoleAdding a clean, penetrating note.
Applications

- Perfumery, especially fougère and fresh accords
- Shampoos, shower gels and body care

Safety and Dilution
Lavandin Oil should be diluted before skin contact. Linalool and linalyl acetate can oxidise when exposed to air, and oxidised oil can sensitise skin, so store it properly. Because of its camphor content, lavandin is not recommended for young children or during pregnancy. Use within IFRA standards and local regulations. Keep out of reach of children. Not for internal use.
