Jasmine Grandiflora
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Jasmine Grandiflorum Absolute is a rich, sweet, warm and deeply floral aromatic extract obtained from the flowers of Jasminum grandiflorum, the Spanish or royal jasmine. Known in India as chameli, it is one of the most precious materials in fine perfumery and is also used in attars, luxury cosmetics and aromatherapy.
Arizone International supplies Jasmine Grandiflorum absolute, concrete and attar for perfumers, attar makers, luxury cosmetic brands and aromatherapy companies.
India's Jasmine Heritage
India is one of the world's leading producers of jasmine flowers and jasmine extracts. Jasmine grandiflorum is grown mainly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and the Madurai and Coimbatore regions are famous for their jasmine gardens. The flowers are picked by hand early in the morning, before sunrise, when their scent is strongest. Egypt, Morocco and Italy are also important producers.
Jasmine is known as the "queen of the night" in Indian tradition, and it is used in garlands, hair decorations (gajra), weddings and temple offerings.
How Jasmine Absolute Is Made
Jasmine flowers are too delicate for steam distillation. Instead, the fresh flowers are extracted with a food-grade solvent such as hexane, producing a waxy material called concrete. The concrete is then washed with alcohol, which is later removed, to produce the absolute. It takes several million flowers, roughly 700 to 1,000 kg, to make about 1 kg of absolute, which is why jasmine is so costly.
Aroma and Composition
- Benzyl AcetateA major component, giving a sweet, fruity floral note.
- Benzyl Benzoate and LinaloolAdding softness and freshness.
- IndolePresent in small amounts, giving a rich, warm, slightly animalic depth.
- Cis-Jasmone and Methyl JasmonateKey compounds that give the true jasmine character.
- Phytol and IsophytolContributing to the body of the absolute.

Safety and Dilution
Jasmine absolute is powerful and should be used in small amounts and always diluted before skin use. It may cause sensitisation in some people, and IFRA standards apply. A patch test is recommended. Absolutes may contain trace residual solvent within permitted limits. Not for internal use. Keep out of reach of children.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Jasmine absolute is thick, so warm it gently and pre-dilute it in alcohol or a carrier before use. In fine fragrance, a small amount of absolute gives a natural richness that synthetic jasmine bases cannot fully copy.
