Ginger Lily Oil captures the rich, sweet, exotic and slightly spicy floral scent of Hedychium coronarium, the white ginger lily. The true oil is produced in very small quantities as a CO2 extract or absolute, while ginger lily fragrance oils recreate the scent for wider use. It is valued in fine perfumery, attars, cosmetics and home fragrance.

Arizone International supplies Ginger Lily absolute and extract on request, as well as ginger lily fragrance oil, for perfumers, attar makers, cosmetic brands and home fragrance companies.

About the Ginger Lily

White ginger lily is a tall perennial plant of the ginger family, native to the Himalayas and the forests of India, Nepal and Southeast Asia. It grows well in damp, shaded places, and its large, butterfly-shaped white flowers release a powerful, sweet fragrance, especially in the evening. In India, it is known as dolan champa or gulbakavali, and in Cuba it is the national flower, called mariposa. In Hawaii, ginger lily flowers are used in leis.

Other Hedychium species, such as Hedychium spicatum (kapur kachri), are used in India for their aromatic rhizomes, which also yield an essential oil used in traditional preparations and incense.

Types of Ginger Lily Oil

  • Ginger Lily Flower Absolute or CO2 ExtractObtained from the flowers in tiny quantities, with a rich, true floral scent. Rare and expensive.
  • Ginger Lily Root OilSteam distilled from the rhizomes, with a spicy, woody, camphoraceous scent.
  • Ginger Lily Fragrance OilA perfumery compound recreating the flower's scent, suitable for soaps, candles and cosmetics.

Aroma Profile

The flower scent is sweet, creamy and exotic, with notes reminiscent of jasmine, gardenia and honeysuckle, and a faint spicy warmth linked to its ginger-family origin. Key aroma compounds include linalool, methyl jasmonate, jasmone, indole and methyl benzoate.

Applications

  • Fine perfumes and attars, especially exotic white-floral accords
  • Body lotions, creams and body oils
  • Soaps, shower gels and shampoos
  • Candles, reed diffusers and room sprays
  • Hair perfumes and hair oils
  • Incense and agarbatti

Safety and Dilution

Ginger Lily Oil must be diluted before skin use. Absolutes and fragrance oils may contain allergens that must be declared on labels in some markets. A patch test is recommended. Use within IFRA standards and local regulations. Keep away from eyes and out of reach of children. Not for internal use.

Availability

True ginger lily flower extracts are produced only in small batches, so supply is limited. For larger or cost-sensitive projects, we recommend our ginger lily fragrance oil, which offers a consistent scent at a lower price.
