Dill Seed Oil is a fresh, warm, spicy and slightly caraway-like essential oil steam distilled from the crushed seeds of Anethum graveolens or its Indian relative, Anethum sowa. It is used mainly in food flavours, especially pickles and sauces, as well as in gripe water, oral care, perfumery and soaps.
Arizone International supplies Dill Seed Oil for flavour houses, pickle and sauce manufacturers, pharmaceutical and personal care companies, and fragrance users.
European Dill and Indian Dill
European dill (Anethum graveolens) is grown in Hungary, Bulgaria, Egypt and other countries. Indian dill (Anethum sowa or Anethum graveolens var. sowa) is known in India as sowa or suva and is grown in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The seeds are used in Indian cooking, mukhwas and traditional preparations, and the fresh leaves (suva bhaji) are used as a vegetable.
The two types of dill oil differ in composition. Indian dill oil usually contains dillapiole, while European dill oil usually contains little or none.
Seed Oil vs Weed Oil
Dill seed oil is distilled from ripe seeds and is high in carvone, with a spicy, caraway-like flavour. Dill weed oil is distilled from the fresh herb and is higher in alpha-phellandrene and dill ether, with a fresher, greener, herbaceous flavour. Please specify which you need.

Traditional Use
Dill has been used for centuries to support digestion. The name "dill" is thought to come from an Old Norse word meaning "to soothe". Dill water has traditionally been given to babies for wind, and Indian dill (sowa) is a traditional ingredient in gripe water. These are traditional uses, not medical claims.
Safety and Dilution
Dill Seed Oil is safe as a food flavour at normal levels. The concentrated oil should be diluted for skin use and is not recommended in aromatherapy during pregnancy. Dillapiole is subject to limits in some markets. Use within IFRA standards and food flavour regulations. Keep out of reach of children.
