Davana Oil is a rich, sweet, fruity and slightly boozy essential oil steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of Artemisia pallens, a small aromatic herb grown in South India. It has a unique scent, often described as a mix of dried fruit, apricot, wine and herbs, and it is highly valued in fine perfumery, flavours and attars.
Arizone International supplies genuine Indian Davana Oil for perfumers, flavour houses, attar makers and speciality fragrance brands.
A South Indian Speciality
Davana is native to South India and is grown mainly in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It is a winter crop, sown after the monsoon and harvested at flowering in early spring. The fresh herb, with its silvery-grey leaves and small yellow flowers, is used in garlands, bouquets and temple offerings, and it is especially associated with worship of Lord Shiva. India is essentially the only commercial source of davana oil in the world.
The oil yield is low, and the quality depends on the season, the weather and careful distillation, which makes davana one of the more valuable Indian essential oils.
