Vitamin K1 Tablets are supplements that provide phylloquinone, the main form of vitamin K found in green plants. Vitamin K1 contributes to normal blood clotting and to the maintenance of normal bones. The "K" comes from the German word "Koagulation", meaning clotting.

Arizone International manufactures and supplies Vitamin K1 Tablets, alone or in multivitamin and bone health formulas, for nutraceutical brands and private label businesses.

Discovery of Vitamin K

In the 1930s, the Danish scientist Henrik Dam noticed that chickens fed a fat-free diet developed bleeding problems that could not be fixed by any known vitamin. He called the missing factor vitamin K. The American chemist Edward Doisy later worked out its structure, and the two shared the Nobel Prize in 1943.

Vitamin K1 is found mainly in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, methi leaves, cabbage, broccoli, lettuce and kale, and in some vegetable oils. Plants use it in photosynthesis. In the body, K1 is mostly used by the liver to activate clotting factors.

Vitamin K1 vs K2

  • Vitamin K1 (Phylloquinone)From plants, mainly used by the liver for blood clotting.
  • Vitamin K2 (Menaquinones)From fermented foods and animal products, such as MK-4 and MK-7, more linked with bone and arterial health.

We list Vitamin K2 MK-4 and MK-7 Tablets separately.

Applications

  • Multivitamin and multimineral tablets
  • Bone health formulas with calcium, vitamin D3 and magnesium
  • Women's and seniors' formulas
  • Complete vitamin K formulas combining K1 and K2
  • Private label vitamin ranges

Formulation Notes

Vitamin K1 is used in micrograms. Adult recommended intakes are generally around 70 mcg to 120 mcg per day, and supplements commonly provide 50 mcg to 100 mcg or more. K1 is an oily compound that is sensitive to light, so we use stabilised powders or beadlets for tablets, protect them with opaque coating and packaging, and test every batch for content uniformity.

Important Safety Note: Blood Thinners

People taking warfarin or other vitamin K antagonist anticoagulants must keep their vitamin K intake steady, because changes can reduce or increase the effect of the medicine. They should not start or stop vitamin K supplements without their doctor's supervision. Newborn babies receive vitamin K by injection in many countries to prevent bleeding, but this is a medical procedure and not related to supplements. Vitamin K1 is otherwise considered safe at supplement doses.

Quality Considerations

  • Phylloquinone assay by HPLC
  • Content uniformity for microgram-level doses
  • Light stability and protective packaging
  • Heavy metals and microbiology
  • Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Vitamin K affects blood clotting, so labels should advise people taking warfarin or other blood thinners to speak to their doctor. Vitamin K1 is often combined with calcium and vitamin D3 in bone formulas.
