Phosphorus Tablet
Part of our Nutraceuticals range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Phosphorus Tablets are mineral supplements that provide phosphorus, the second most abundant mineral in the body after calcium. Around 85% of the body's phosphorus is found in bones and teeth, where it combines with calcium to form their hard structure. The rest is used in every cell for energy production, cell membranes and DNA.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Phosphorus Tablets and phosphate-containing mineral formulas, especially bone health combinations, for nutraceutical brands and private label businesses.
Phosphorus and Energy
Phosphorus is part of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the molecule every cell uses as its energy currency. It is also part of the phospholipids that make up cell membranes and of DNA and RNA. Along with calcium, it forms hydroxyapatite, the mineral that gives bone its strength. The kidneys carefully control phosphorus levels in the blood, with help from vitamin D and parathyroid hormone.
Phosphorus is found in protein-rich foods such as dairy, meat, fish, eggs, legumes, nuts and whole grains, and also in many processed foods and soft drinks as phosphate additives. As a result, most people get enough, and deficiency is uncommon.
Forms of Phosphorus
- Dicalcium Phosphate and Tricalcium PhosphateSupply both calcium and phosphorus, widely used in bone formulas and as tablet fillers.
- Potassium and Sodium PhosphatesUsed in specific electrolyte and phosphate formulas.
- Magnesium PhosphateProvides magnesium and phosphorus together.
Applications
- Calcium and phosphorus bone health tablets
- Children's and adolescents' growth nutrition formulas
- Sports and energy formulas
- Multivitamin and multimineral tablets
- Private label mineral ranges
Formulation Notes
Phosphorus is typically included at around 100 mg to 300 mg per serving in mineral formulas. Calcium phosphates are dense and compress well, making them practical for tablets. For bone products, the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is an important design choice, and we help clients set it based on their target market.
Safety Notes
Too much phosphorus can be a concern, especially for people with kidney disease, whose bodies cannot remove extra phosphate well. High phosphorus intake with low calcium may also affect bone health. People with kidney disease, those on dialysis, and people taking antacids, diuretics or certain blood pressure medicines should consult a doctor before using phosphorus supplements. Upper limits apply in many regions.
Quality Considerations
- Phosphate source and phosphorus assay
- Heavy metals, especially lead, cadmium and fluoride in mineral phosphates
- Tablet hardness, disintegration and dissolution
- Content uniformity in combination tablets
- Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis
Dicalcium phosphate is also one of the most common tablet fillers in the supplement industry, so phosphorus is often present in small amounts in many tablets even when it is not an active ingredient. We account for this when calculating total mineral content on the label.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Phosphorus is usually supplied as calcium or magnesium phosphate, so check that the calcium or magnesium content is counted in the label. It is rarely sold on its own for general consumers.
