Niacin Tablet
Part of our Nutraceuticals range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Niacin Tablets are vitamin supplements that provide niacin, also called vitamin B3. Niacin helps the body release energy from food and contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system, normal skin and normal psychological function. It is part of NAD and NADP, two coenzymes involved in hundreds of reactions in every cell.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Niacin Tablets in both nicotinic acid and niacinamide forms, alone or in B-complex formulas, for nutraceutical brands and private label businesses.
A Vitamin Discovered Through a Disease
In the early twentieth century, a disease called pellagra caused thousands of deaths in the southern United States, especially among poor families who lived mainly on maize. Its symptoms were known as the "four Ds": dermatitis, diarrhoea, dementia and death. The physician Joseph Goldberger showed that pellagra was caused by poor diet, not infection, and the missing nutrient was later identified as niacin. Traditional Mexican cooking avoided pellagra by treating corn with lime (nixtamalisation), which releases its niacin.
Two Main Forms
- Nicotinic AcidCan cause a harmless but uncomfortable "niacin flush", with redness, warmth and tingling of the skin at higher doses. It is sometimes used in higher doses under medical supervision.
- Niacinamide (Nicotinamide)Does not cause flushing and is the preferred form in most multivitamins and skin-focused supplements.
- Inositol HexanicotinateMarketed as "no-flush niacin", though its absorption is debated.
Niacinamide is also well known in skin care, where it is used in serums and creams.
Applications
- B-complex and multivitamin tablets
- Energy metabolism supplements
- Skin wellness supplements with niacinamide
- Healthy-ageing formulas that support NAD levels
- Private label vitamin ranges
Formulation Notes
Nutritional doses are typically 15 mg to 50 mg per tablet. Higher-strength products, such as 250 mg to 500 mg, need careful labelling and are subject to limits in many markets. Sustained-release nicotinic acid reduces flushing but has been linked with a higher risk of liver effects, so we recommend it only where regulations and medical guidance allow.
Safety Notes
High doses of niacin can cause flushing, stomach upset, liver problems, raised blood sugar and gout flare-ups. People with liver disease, active stomach ulcers, gout or diabetes should consult a doctor before using high-dose niacin. Niacin may interact with cholesterol and blood pressure medicines. Many countries set upper limits for niacin from supplements, which labels should follow.
Quality Considerations
- Niacin form (nicotinic acid or niacinamide) and assay by HPLC
- Content uniformity and stability
- Release profile for sustained-release tablets
- Heavy metals and microbiology
- Batch consistency and Certificate of Analysis
Niacin was once known as the "PP factor", short for pellagra-preventing factor, before its chemical identity was confirmed.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Choose niacinamide if you want to avoid the niacin flush, or nicotinic acid for formulas where the flush is acceptable. Check the maximum permitted dose, as limits are low in some markets.
