Dill Seeds are the flat, oval, light brown seeds (technically fruits) of the dill plant. They have a warm, slightly bitter, caraway-like flavour and are used in pickles, spice blends, breads and digestive remedies. In India, dill seed is known as soya or suva, and it is a familiar ingredient in gripe water and home remedies for infant colic.
Arizone International supplies whole Dill Seeds in bulk, cleaned and graded, for spice companies, pickle makers, food manufacturers, oil distillers, herbal brands, wholesalers and exporters.
European and Indian Dill
There are two main types of dill in trade. European dill is Anethum graveolens, the feathery herb used fresh in Scandinavian, Russian and Central European cooking. Indian dill, often called Anethum sowa, is closely related and is grown mainly for its seeds. Indian dill seeds tend to be slightly longer and narrower, with a somewhat different aroma. India grows dill seed mainly in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
The name dill is thought to come from an old Norse word meaning "to lull" or soothe, which fits its long-standing use for calming the stomach and settling restless babies.

Dill in Traditional Practice
Dill water, made from dill seed oil or an infusion of the seeds, was a key ingredient in the original gripe water, a remedy first sold in England in the nineteenth century for babies with colic. In Ayurveda, shatapushpa (dill) is used for digestion and women's health. Modern products using dill for infants must follow strict local regulations.
