Alfalfa Leaf is the dried leaf of Medicago sativa, a deep-rooted legume grown around the world as one of the most nutritious forage crops. For herbal and nutrition businesses, the dried leaf is a useful green raw material for teas, powders, capsules and green food blends.

Arizone International supplies whole and cut Alfalfa Leaf in bulk for herbal tea companies, supplement manufacturers, powder processors, wholesalers and exporters.

About Alfalfa

Alfalfa is also known as lucerne, and in India as rijka or lasunghas. It is a perennial plant from the pea family that can live for several years and be cut many times in a season. Its roots can reach several metres deep, helping it draw minerals from lower soil layers and survive dry weather. Like other legumes, it works with soil bacteria to fix nitrogen from the air, which is why farmers also use it to improve soil. In India it is grown mainly as green fodder in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra.

The name "alfalfa" is often traced to an Arabic phrase meaning "father of all foods", a sign of how highly the plant was valued in the ancient Middle East, where it was first cultivated for horses.

How the Leaf Is Prepared

For herbal use, the plants are cut before full flowering, when leaf nutrients are at their best. The leaves are separated from the thicker stems and dried quickly, either in the shade or in low-temperature dryers, to keep their green colour. Slow or sun drying turns the leaves yellow-brown and reduces quality. The dried leaves are then cleaned, sieved and supplied whole, cut (tea bag cut or TBC) or ready for milling into powder.
