Trikatu Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Trikatu Powder (Trikatu Churna) is a classical Ayurvedic blend of three pungent spices: dry ginger (Shunthi), black pepper (Maricha) and long pepper (Pippali). "Tri" means three and "katu" means pungent. It is one of the most widely used formulas in Ayurveda, traditionally used to kindle digestion, clear congestion and enhance the action of other herbs.
Arizone International manufactures and supplies Trikatu Churna in bulk and private label packs for Ayurvedic companies, digestive and respiratory wellness brands, spice companies, wholesalers and exporters.
The Three Pungent Spices
- Shunthi (Dry Ginger)Zingiber officinale rhizome, warming and digestive, containing gingerols and shogaols.
- Maricha (Black Pepper)Piper nigrum fruit, rich in piperine.
- Pippali (Long Pepper)Piper longum fruit spikes, pungent and sweet, also rich in piperine.
In the classical formula, the three are combined in equal parts by weight, giving a warm, sharp, spicy powder.
Trikatu in Ayurveda
Ayurvedic texts describe Trikatu as a powerful Deepana-Pachana formula, one that kindles Agni (digestive fire) and helps digest Ama (undigested toxins). It is traditionally used for sluggish digestion, loss of appetite, gas, cough and chest congestion, and to support healthy metabolism. Trikatu is also regarded as a Yogavahi, a "carrier" that enhances the effect of other herbs, which is why it appears as an ingredient in many classical formulas, such as Kanchanar Guggulu and Triphala Guggulu.
Modern research has helped explain part of this traditional idea: piperine from black and long pepper is known to improve the absorption of several nutrients and plant compounds.
Applications
- Classical Trikatu Churna in bulk and retail packs
- Tablets and capsules for digestive and metabolic support
- Respiratory herbal blends and kadha with tulsi and honey
- Ingredient in guggulu and other Ayurvedic formulations
- Bioavailability support in herbal products
- Spice blends and herbal teas
How It Is Taken
Traditionally, Trikatu is taken in small doses with honey or warm water before or after meals, as advised by an Ayurvedic practitioner.
Safety Notes
Trikatu is strongly heating and pungent. It is not suitable for people with acidity, ulcers, gastritis or inflammatory bowel conditions, and it is not recommended during pregnancy without advice. Because piperine affects the absorption of some medicines, people on regular medication should consult a doctor.
