Stinging Nettle Powder is made from the dried leaves of Urtica dioica, a common wild plant famous for the painful sting of its fresh leaves. Once dried or cooked, the sting disappears completely, and nettle becomes a nutritious green herb used in teas, soups, supplements, hair care and natural cosmetics.

Arizone International supplies Stinging Nettle Leaf Powder and cut leaves for herbal tea brands, supplement manufacturers, hair-care and cosmetic companies, wholesalers and exporters.

Why Nettles Sting

Fresh nettle leaves and stems are covered with tiny hollow hairs tipped with silica. When touched, the tips break off and inject a small amount of irritating fluid containing histamine, acetylcholine, serotonin and formic acid, causing a burning, itchy rash. Drying, cooking, blanching or crushing destroys these hairs, which is why dried nettle powder is safe to handle and eat.

A Useful Wild Plant

Nettle grows almost everywhere in temperate regions of Europe, Asia and North America, including the Himalayas, where it is known as bichhu buti and is cooked as a green in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In Europe, nettle soup is a traditional spring dish. Nettle fibres were also used to make cloth for centuries, and during the First World War, nettle fabric was used in some military uniforms when cotton was scarce.

What Nettle Leaves Contain

  • MineralsRich in calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and silica.
  • VitaminsIncluding vitamin K, vitamin C and carotenoids.
  • Protein and FibreNettle leaves are fairly high in protein for a leafy plant.
  • Flavonoids and Phenolic AcidsSuch as quercetin, rutin and caffeic acid derivatives.
  • ChlorophyllGiving a deep green colour.

Traditional and Modern Uses

In European herbal tradition, nettle leaf is used as a spring tonic, a mild diuretic and for joint comfort, and it has been studied for seasonal allergy relief. Nettle hair rinses and oils are traditional for healthy-looking hair and scalp. Nettle root, which is a different part of the plant, is used separately in men's prostate supplements.

Applications

  • Herbal teas and green infusions
  • Capsules and tablets for general wellness
  • Green superfood blends and soups
  • Hair rinses, shampoos and scalp treatments
  • Skin-care products and natural cosmetics
  • Animal feed and organic plant tonics

Safety Notes

Dried nettle leaf is generally well tolerated. Because it is traditionally used as a diuretic and is rich in vitamin K, people on diuretics, blood pressure medicines, lithium or blood thinners should consult a doctor. Pregnant women should seek advice before using concentrated nettle products.
