Stevia Powder is made from the dried leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a small shrub whose leaves are naturally many times sweeter than sugar. It is available as green stevia leaf powder, which is simply the dried and ground leaf, and as white stevia extract powder, which is a purified sweetener. Both offer sweetness with virtually no calories.

Arizone International supplies green Stevia Leaf Powder, dried leaves and purified stevia extract for beverage and food manufacturers, tea blenders, health-food brands, wholesalers and exporters.

Green Leaf Powder vs White Extract

  • Green Stevia Leaf PowderThe whole dried leaf, ground into a fine green powder. It is roughly 20 to 30 times sweeter than sugar, has a herbal, slightly liquorice-like aftertaste and contains the leaf's natural fibre and plant compounds. It is popular in herbal teas and natural products.
  • White Stevia ExtractPurified steviol glycosides such as rebaudioside A, 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar, with a cleaner taste. It is the form most used in soft drinks and processed foods.

The Sweet Leaf of Paraguay

Stevia is native to the highlands between Paraguay and Brazil, where the Guarani people called it "ka'a he'ẽ", the sweet herb, and used it to sweeten mate tea for centuries. Japan began using stevia commercially in the 1970s, and it is now grown in China, South America and India, including in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab.

What Stevia Leaves Contain

  • Steviol glycosides, mainly stevioside and rebaudioside A, which provide sweetness
  • Flavonoids and chlorogenic acid derivatives
  • Fibre, chlorophyll and minerals in leaf powder

Applications

  • Herbal teas and natural sweetened tea blends (leaf powder)
  • Sugar-free and reduced-sugar beverages (extract)
  • Natural sweetening in smoothies, desserts and bakery
  • Diabetic-friendly and keto food products
  • Toothpastes and oral-care products
  • Table-top sweeteners and sachets

Regulatory Note

Purified steviol glycosides are approved as sweeteners in India, the European Union, the United States and many other countries. Whole stevia leaf and crude extracts are regulated differently in some markets and may not be permitted as a food additive, although they may be allowed in certain products such as herbal teas. Buyers should confirm the permitted form for their market; we can supply the appropriate grade.

Quality Parameters

  • Stevia rebaudiana identity
  • Steviol glycoside content by HPLC
  • Colour, sweetness and taste
  • Moisture and particle size
  • Microbiology, pesticide residues and heavy metals

Packaging and Storage

Stevia Powder is packed in moisture-proof, food-grade bags. Store sealed in a cool, dry place.

Safety Notes

Stevia is widely consumed and generally well tolerated. People allergic to plants in the daisy family may react to it. People on diabetes or blood pressure medicines should monitor their levels when using stevia leaf products regularly.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Stevia leaf powder is less sweet than stevia extract.
