Spinach Powder is made from fresh spinach leaves, Spinacia oleracea, that are dried and milled into a fine, deep green powder. It gives foods a natural green colour and adds vegetable nutrition to pasta, bakery, snacks, soups, smoothies and baby foods, with a much longer shelf life than fresh spinach.
Arizone International supplies Spinach Powder for food manufacturers, pasta and bakery companies, snack and seasoning makers, baby-food and superfood brands, wholesalers and exporters.
From Palak to Powder
Spinach, known in India as palak, originated in ancient Persia and spread through Asia and Europe. Today China is by far the largest producer, and in India spinach is grown in almost every state as a winter leafy vegetable. It is the star of dishes like palak paneer and palak dal. For powder, fresh leaves are washed, often blanched to help preserve their green colour, then dried at low temperatures and milled.
What Spinach Powder Contains
- ChlorophyllGives a strong natural green colour.
- VitaminsEspecially vitamin K, folate, vitamin A precursors (beta-carotene) and vitamin C.
- MineralsIncluding iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium.
- CarotenoidsSuch as lutein and zeaxanthin.
- Natural Nitrates and OxalatesSpinach naturally contains both.
Spinach is famous for its iron content, but much of it is non-heme iron and is less easily absorbed than iron from meat. Adding vitamin C helps absorption.
Applications
- Green pasta, noodles and dumpling wrappers
- Breads, wraps, crackers and snacks
- Soups, sauces and dips
- Smoothies, green drinks and superfood blends
- Baby foods and toddler snacks
- Natural green colouring in foods

Colour Tips
Spinach powder's green colour is most vivid in products that are not heated for long or at high acidity, as chlorophyll turns olive-brown with heat and acid. Blanched, low-temperature dried powder keeps its colour better. We can advise on suitable dosages for your application.
Safety Notes
Spinach is safe as a food. Because it is high in vitamin K, people on warfarin should keep their intake consistent. People prone to kidney stones may need to limit high-oxalate foods such as spinach.
