Pushkarmool Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Pushkarmool Powder is made from the dried roots of Inula racemosa, a tall, aromatic Himalayan herb. In Ayurveda, Pushkarmool is traditionally valued for the respiratory system and the heart, and it is an ingredient in classical formulations such as Pushkaramuladi Churna and Pushkar Guggulu.
Arizone International supplies Pushkarmool Powder and dried roots for Ayurvedic manufacturers, respiratory and heart wellness brands, wholesalers and exporters.
A Rare Himalayan Root
Inula racemosa is a tall perennial of the daisy family with large leaves and bright yellow, sunflower-like flower heads. It grows in the western Himalayas, especially in Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh (including the Lahaul valley) and neighbouring regions, at high altitudes. The thick, aromatic roots are harvested, cleaned, sliced and dried. They have a camphor-like, slightly bitter smell.
Because Pushkarmool is scarce, it is often substituted in trade with related roots, particularly Inula helenium (elecampane) and sometimes with kuth (Saussurea costus). Some Ayurvedic texts also allow substitutes. Correct identification helps buyers get what their formula requires.

- Heart WellnessUsed in classical formulas for chest discomfort and heart support, often with Arjuna and Guggulu.
- Digestive SupportIts warm, bitter nature is used to kindle digestion.
- Classical FormulasPushkaramuladi Churna, Pushkar Guggulu and several respiratory preparations.
What Pushkarmool Contains
The roots contain sesquiterpene lactones, especially alantolactone and isoalantolactone, which give the aroma and bitterness. They are also rich in inulin, a storage carbohydrate, along with an essential oil.
Applications
- Ayurvedic churnas, tablets and capsules
- Respiratory herbal blends and kadha
- Heart and circulation wellness formulas
- Classical and proprietary Ayurvedic preparations
- Private label Ayurvedic products
Sustainability
Pushkarmool is considered threatened in the wild due to overharvesting. Cultivation, especially in Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, has helped meet some demand. We work with suppliers who can provide traceable, legally sourced material.
Safety Notes
Pushkarmool should be used under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. People allergic to plants in the daisy family should avoid it. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. People on heart medicines must not replace prescribed treatment with herbal products.
