Fig Powder is made from dried figs, the sweet fruit of Ficus carica, milled into a light brown, naturally sweet powder. It carries the honey-like flavour of dried figs and is rich in dietary fibre, making it a useful ingredient for bakery, breakfast foods, snacks, beverages and natural sweetening.

Arizone International supplies Fig Powder for food manufacturers, bakeries, health-food and snack brands, baby-food companies, wholesalers and exporters.

An Ancient Fruit

Figs are among the oldest cultivated fruits, grown in the Middle East and Mediterranean for thousands of years. They are mentioned in many ancient texts and were a staple food in ancient Greece and Rome. Turkey is the world's largest producer of dried figs, with other major sources including Egypt, Morocco, Iran and Spain. In India, figs are known as anjeer, and the Pune region of Maharashtra is famous for its figs, with Purandar figs having received a Geographical Indication tag. Dried anjeer is a popular dry fruit, often soaked overnight and eaten in the morning.

What looks like a fruit is actually a hollow structure lined with hundreds of tiny flowers, which ripen into the small crunchy seeds inside.

How Fig Powder Is Made

Ripe figs are dried, cleaned and sometimes pre-treated, then milled into powder. Because figs are very sticky and high in natural sugar, fig powder is often made from low-moisture dried figs, and a flow agent or carrier may be added to prevent caking. We can supply 100% fig powder or free-flowing grades, depending on your application.

Fig Powder is very hygroscopic and must be packed in moisture-proof, food-grade bags. Store sealed in a cool, dry place to prevent caking.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Fig powder is naturally sweet and sticky, so it can clump in humid weather; ask for an anti-caking option if you need a free-flowing powder. It is often used in bakery, snacks and baby foods. Keep it in sealed packs with a desiccant.
