Daru Haldi Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Daru Haldi Powder is made from the dried stem and root wood of Berberis aristata, the Indian barberry, known in Ayurveda as Daruharidra. The name means "wood turmeric", because the wood beneath the bark is a vivid yellow. It is a traditional Ayurvedic herb for the skin, eyes and liver, and one of India's natural sources of berberine.
Arizone International supplies Daru Haldi Powder for Ayurvedic manufacturers, skincare and herbal brands, wholesalers and exporters.
About Daru Haldi
Berberis aristata is a spiny evergreen shrub that grows on the slopes of the Himalayas, in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Nepal. It carries yellow flowers in spring and bluish-purple berries in summer. The stems and roots are cut, dried and ground into a yellow to brownish-yellow powder with a strongly bitter taste. Despite the name, it is not related to turmeric (haldi); the name simply reflects its similar colour.
Rasaut: A Classic Preparation
One of the most famous preparations from Daru Haldi is Rasanjana, commonly called Rasaut. It is made by boiling the wood in water for a long time and slowly reducing the liquid to a thick, dark, sticky solid. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe its use in eye care, for the skin and in wound care. Daru Haldi powder is also used in traditional formulas such as Darvyadi Kwath.
What Daru Haldi Contains

It is not recommended during pregnancy, while breastfeeding or for newborns. Use should follow the advice of a qualified practitioner and the regulations of the target market.
Authenticity
Several Berberis species and another yellow-wood plant, Coscinium fenestratum (tree turmeric), are sometimes sold under the name Daruharidra. Correct identification and berberine testing help ensure authentic material. Wild harvest should also be responsible, as demand has put pressure on natural populations.
