Celery Leaf Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Celery Leaf Powder is made from the dried leaves and stalks of celery, Apium graveolens. It has a fresh, savoury, slightly salty celery flavour, making it a popular ingredient in soups, seasonings, sauces and processed foods. Celery powder is also used as a natural ingredient in some cured meat products.
Arizone International supplies Celery Leaf Powder for seasoning companies, soup and sauce manufacturers, meat processors, herbal brands, wholesalers and exporters.
Celery Leaf, Stalk and Seed
Celery is grown for three main products: the crunchy stalks eaten as a vegetable, the aromatic leaves used as a herb, and the tiny seeds used as a spice. Celery Leaf Powder is made mainly from the leaves and tender stalks, which are washed, dried at low temperature and milled into a green powder. It has a milder, fresher flavour than celery seed and a bright green colour. In India, leaf celery is grown in Punjab, Haryana and other northern states.
Flavour and Composition
- PhthalidesSuch as 3-n-butylphthalide and sedanolide, which give celery its characteristic aroma.
- FlavonoidsIncluding apigenin and luteolin.
- Natural NitratesCelery is naturally rich in nitrate.
- Minerals and VitaminsIncluding potassium, sodium, vitamin K and folate.
Celery Powder in "Uncured" Meats
Because celery is naturally high in nitrate, cultured celery powder is used by some meat processors as a natural alternative to synthetic sodium nitrite. During processing, bacterial cultures convert celery's nitrate into nitrite, which cures the meat and gives it its colour. Products made this way are often labelled "uncured" or "no added nitrites" in some markets, although regulations on these claims vary and have been reviewed in several countries. Cultured celery powder is a specialised product; please discuss your requirement with us.

Packaging and Storage
Celery Leaf Powder is packed in food-grade, moisture-proof bags. Store in a cool, dry, dark place to preserve colour and flavour.
Celery leaf powder is also used in salt-reduction blends, because its natural savoury taste can help reduce the amount of added salt.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Celery is a listed allergen in the EU and UK, so finished products must declare it. Ask for microbiology results for ready-to-eat use.
Keep packs sealed and away from light to protect the green colour and aroma.
