Carrot Powder is made from dehydrated carrots, Daucus carota, milled into a fine, bright orange powder. It is a convenient source of natural colour, sweetness and beta-carotene for soups, sauces, baby foods, bakery, snacks, beverages and cosmetics.
Arizone International supplies Carrot Powder, including orange carrot and black carrot powders, for food manufacturers, baby-food brands, natural colour users, supplement makers, wholesalers and exporters.
From Root to Powder
The first cultivated carrots, in Central Asia, were purple and yellow. The familiar orange carrot was developed much later, and is often linked with Dutch growers in the seventeenth century. India grows large quantities of carrots, especially in Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. North India is also known for its red "Delhi" carrots used in gajar ka halwa and for black carrots, which are fermented into kanji, a tangy, purple winter drink.
To make powder, carrots are washed, peeled, sliced and dried at controlled temperatures, then milled and sieved. Drying at the right temperature is important because too much heat darkens the colour and reduces carotenoids.
Types of Carrot Powder
- Orange Carrot PowderRich in beta-carotene, with a bright orange colour and mild sweetness.
- Black Carrot PowderRich in anthocyanins, giving deep purple to red shades. Black carrot is widely used as a natural colouring food in beverages and confectionery.
- Carrot Juice PowderSpray-dried from juice, more soluble and suited to drinks.
What Carrots Contain
- Beta-carotene and alpha-carotene (provitamin A) in orange carrots
- Anthocyanins in black carrots
- Natural sugars and dietary fibre
- Potassium, vitamin K and some B vitamins
Applications
- Soups, sauces, gravies and ready meals
- Baby foods and toddler snacks
- Bakery, pasta and extruded snacks
- Natural orange or purple colour in beverages, dairy and confectionery
- Smoothies, juices and vegetable blends
- Pet foods
- Face packs, soaps and natural cosmetics
Colour Stability
Beta-carotene in carrot powder is sensitive to light, heat and oxygen, which can fade the colour over time. Black carrot anthocyanins change shade with pH, looking redder in acidic products. We recommend opaque, airtight packaging and suggest suitable dosages for your application.
Quality Parameters
- Colour value, beta-carotene or anthocyanin content where specified
- Moisture and water activity
- Particle size and flowability
- Microbiology, pesticide residues and heavy metals

Packaging and Storage
Carrot Powder is packed in food-grade, moisture-proof and light-protective bags. Store in a cool, dry, dark place and reseal after use, as the powder absorbs moisture.
Carrot powder is also a convenient way to add sweetness and colour to pet treats and baked snacks.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Carrot powder is used for natural colour and nutrition in soups, snacks and bakery. Store it away from light to protect the beta-carotene.
