Bergamot Peel Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Bergamot Peel Powder is made from the dried peel of Citrus bergamia, a fragrant citrus fruit best known as the flavour behind Earl Grey tea. The peel carries bergamot's distinctive floral, citrusy aroma and is rich in citrus flavonoids, which makes it useful in teas, food flavouring, cosmetics and wellness products.
Arizone International supplies Bergamot Peel Powder for tea blenders, food and beverage companies, cosmetic makers, supplement manufacturers, wholesalers and exporters.
The Fruit of Calabria
Bergamot is a small, pear-shaped citrus fruit, green to yellow when ripe, and far too sour and bitter to eat fresh. It grows best along a narrow coastal strip of Calabria in southern Italy, which produces the large majority of the world's bergamot. The fruit is prized mainly for its peel, which is cold-pressed to produce bergamot essential oil, a key ingredient in classic perfumes and eau de colognes. Smaller amounts are grown in other Mediterranean regions and elsewhere.
Earl Grey tea, named after a nineteenth-century British Prime Minister, is black tea flavoured with bergamot. Its popularity has made bergamot one of the most recognised citrus aromas in the world.
What Bergamot Peel Contains

- Citrus FlavonoidsSuch as naringin, neohesperidin, neoeriocitrin and unique compounds like brutieridin and melitidin, which are the subject of research into cholesterol support.
- Fibre and PectinPresent in whole peel powder.
- FurocoumarinsIncluding bergapten, a compound that can make skin sensitive to sunlight.
Applications
- Earl Grey-style tea blends and herbal infusions
- Flavouring for confectionery, bakery and beverages

Important Note for Cosmetics
Bergamot peel and its oil naturally contain bergapten and other furocoumarins that can cause skin reactions when skin is exposed to sunlight after application. For leave-on cosmetic products, the amount of bergamot used must be controlled, or bergapten-free ingredients should be used. International fragrance and cosmetic standards set limits for furocoumarins in products that stay on the skin.
