Bala Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Bala Powder is made from Sida cordifolia, a small, hairy shrub known in Ayurveda as Bala, which simply means "strength". As its name suggests, it is traditionally regarded as a strengthening and nourishing herb, and it is one of the key ingredients in several classical Ayurvedic oils and tonics used for the muscles, joints and nervous system.
Arizone International supplies Bala Powder, mainly root powder, for Ayurvedic manufacturers, herbal oil makers, wellness brands, wholesalers and exporters, with clear specifications and documentation.
About Bala
Sida cordifolia is a perennial shrub, usually under a metre tall, with soft, velvety, heart-shaped leaves and small yellow flowers. It grows wild on waste land, roadsides and dry areas throughout India. In English it is sometimes called country mallow or flannel weed. Ayurvedic texts mention a group of related plants called "Bala Chatushtaya" (the four Balas), of which Sida cordifolia is the main one. The root is the part most valued in classical preparations.
Traditional Uses in Ayurveda
- Strength and VitalityUsed as a Rasayana and Balya herb, traditionally for general weakness and recovery.
- Vata BalanceConsidered especially useful for Vata-related complaints of the muscles, joints and nerves.
- Classical OilsA key ingredient in Ksheerabala Taila (cooked with milk and sesame oil), Balashwagandhadi Taila and Mahanarayan Taila, used for massage.
- TonicsFound in preparations such as Balarishta and various churnas.
An Important Regulatory Note
Sida cordifolia naturally contains small amounts of ephedrine-type alkaloids, especially in the seeds and aerial parts. Ephedrine is a stimulant that is regulated in many countries. In the United States, dietary supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids have been banned since 2004, and several other markets restrict herbs that contain them. Bala products intended for export, especially for internal use, must be checked carefully against the rules of the destination country. Topical oils and external products may be treated differently. We help our clients understand these requirements before shipment.
