Babul Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Babul Powder is made from the babool tree, Acacia nilotica (now Vachellia nilotica), one of the most familiar thorny trees of rural India. Babool twigs have been used as a natural toothbrush (datun) for centuries, and its bark, pods and leaves are used in Ayurvedic oral care, skin care and traditional remedies.
Arizone International supplies Babul Powder, including bark powder and pod (phali) powder, for oral-care brands, Ayurvedic manufacturers, herbal companies, wholesalers and exporters.
The Village Toothbrush
Babool is a hardy tree that thrives in dry and semi-arid areas across India, Pakistan and Africa, with feathery leaves, long white thorns, yellow ball-shaped flowers and flat, beaded pods. Before modern toothbrushes, many Indian families chewed fresh babool or neem twigs to clean their teeth, and the practice continues in villages today. The astringent bark is believed to help firm the gums. The tree also produces an edible gum, known as babool gond.

What Babool Contains
Babool bark and pods are rich in tannins, including catechins and gallic acid, which give them a strong astringent taste. The pods were historically an important source of tannin for leather tanning and a natural dye. These astringent properties are the main reason for babool's use in oral care.
