Aritha Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Aritha Powder, also called reetha or soapnut powder, is made from the dried fruits of the soapnut tree. When mixed with water, it produces a natural lather, and for generations Indian families have used it to wash hair, clean silk and woollen clothes, and polish gold and silver jewellery.
Arizone International supplies Aritha Powder in bulk for herbal shampoo and hair-care brands, natural detergent makers, Ayurvedic companies, wholesalers and exporters.
Nature's Soap
The soapnut tree grows in two main types in India. Sapindus mukorossi grows in the northern hills and foothills, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Nepal. Sapindus trifoliatus (or Sapindus emarginatus) grows in South India. The round fruits dry to a sticky, wrinkled, golden-brown shell around a hard black seed. The shell contains saponins, natural compounds that foam in water and lift away dirt and oil, much like soap.
Local goldsmiths across India have long cleaned jewellery by boiling it in reetha water, which removes grime and restores shine without harsh chemicals.

How It Is Used
For hair, aritha powder is usually mixed with water, often together with shikakai and amla powder, to make a paste or liquid that is applied to wet hair and rinsed off. For liquid products, the powder can be boiled in water and strained to make a natural soap liquid.
Safety Notes
Soapnut saponins can sting the eyes, so contact with eyes should be avoided and products should carry an eye warning. Aritha is for external use only and should not be swallowed. A patch test is recommended for people with sensitive skin.

Packaging and Storage
Aritha Powder is packed in poly-lined bags, typically 20 kg to 25 kg, or in retail packs. It absorbs moisture easily, so store in sealed packaging in a dry place.
Aritha is also used in some traditional dry shampoos.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Aritha powder foams well in water, which makes it useful in herbal shampoos and cleansers. Keep it away from the eyes, and ask for microbiology results for cosmetic use.
Store it in a dry place, as the powder absorbs moisture and can form lumps.
