Anantmool (Sariva) Powder is made from the dried roots of Hemidesmus indicus, known in English as Indian sarsaparilla. The roots have a sweet, vanilla-like aroma, and in Ayurveda Sariva is one of the most respected herbs for cooling the body and supporting clear skin. In South India, the same root is the source of nannari, the fragrant syrup behind a popular summer sherbet.
Arizone International supplies Anantmool Powder and whole roots in bulk for Ayurvedic manufacturers, beverage and syrup makers, herbal companies, wholesalers and exporters.
About Anantmool
Hemidesmus indicus is a slender, twining climber with narrow leaves that grows across India, from the plains to the lower hills, often winding around hedges and small trees. Its long, woody roots have a reddish-brown bark with cracks and a pleasant sweet smell. The Sanskrit name Anantmool means "endless root", reflecting its long roots. Sariva is also called Shveta Sariva in Ayurveda, to distinguish it from Krishna Sariva, a different plant with darker roots.
Nannari Sherbet
In Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, nannari syrup is made by boiling the roots with sugar, and it is mixed with lemon juice, water and ice to make nannari sherbet, a traditional cooler sold at roadside stalls in summer. The root's characteristic aroma comes mainly from a compound called 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde, which has a vanilla-like scent.
