Jujube Extract
Part of our Herbal Extracts range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Jujube Extract is made from the fruit or seeds of Ziziphus jujuba, often called the Chinese date or red date. The fruit is sweet and chewy when dried, and it has been eaten and used in traditional preparations in China and other parts of Asia for thousands of years. In India, its close relative Ziziphus mauritiana is the familiar ber fruit sold at roadside stalls in winter.
Arizone International supplies Jujube Extract to nutraceutical, food, beverage and cosmetic manufacturers. We offer fruit and seed extracts in ratio and standardised grades, prepared to buyer specification.
Fruit Extract and Seed Extract
Jujube is used in two quite different ways, so it helps to be clear about which one you need.
- Jujube Fruit ExtractMade from the dried red fruit. It is sweet, rich in polysaccharides and naturally contains vitamin C. It is used in foods, drinks, tonics and skin care.
- Jujube Seed ExtractMade from the seeds of the sour jujube, known in traditional Chinese medicine as Suan Zao Ren. It is known for saponins called jujubosides and is used mainly in relaxation and sleep formulas.
What Jujube Contains
Jujube fruit is rich in sugars, polysaccharides, flavonoids, triterpenic acids and minerals. It also contains cyclic AMP in unusually high amounts for a fruit. The seeds contain jujubosides, spinosin and other flavonoids, along with fatty oil. In Chinese herbal practice, the fruit is often added to formulas to balance and sweeten them, while the seed is used for calming the mind.
Applications
- Sleep and relaxation capsules, often with valerian, chamomile or L-theanine
- Stress and mood support blends
- Herbal tonics, syrups and traditional-style decoctions
- Functional teas, juices and ready-to-drink beverages
- Snacks, confectionery and bakery fillings
- Skin-care creams, masks and essences
- Hair-care formulations
In Korean and Chinese cooking, red dates are added to soups, teas and rice dishes. This familiarity makes jujube fruit extract easy to position in food and drink products for Asian markets.
Grades and Specifications
We supply jujube fruit extract as a light brown, sweet-tasting powder in ratios such as 4:1 and 10:1, or standardised to polysaccharides. Seed extract is available in ratio grades or standardised to jujubosides on request. Specifications for moisture, solubility, heavy metals and microbial limits are agreed before production.
Fruit extract is hygroscopic because of its natural sugars. Keep it tightly sealed in moisture-proof bags and store in a cool, dry place.
Safety Notes
Jujube seed extract is traditionally used for calming and may add to the effect of sedative medicines. Finished products should advise consumers who take such medicines, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, to consult a healthcare professional.
