Black Pepper Oil is a warm, spicy and fresh essential oil steam distilled from the dried, crushed berries of Piper nigrum. It captures the fresh, woody aroma of pepper without its heat, because piperine, the compound that makes pepper pungent, does not distil over into the oil. It is used in perfumery, food flavours, aromatherapy and personal care products.
Arizone International supplies Black Pepper Oil for flavour houses, food processors, fragrance companies, cosmetic brands and aromatherapy businesses.
The King of Spices
Black pepper is native to the Malabar Coast of Kerala and has been traded from India for more than 3,000 years. It was so valuable in ancient and medieval times that it was sometimes called "black gold" and was even used as a currency. Kerala and Karnataka remain India's main pepper-growing states, and famous grades include Malabar and Tellicherry pepper. Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia and Sri Lanka are also large producers.
The green berries are picked and dried in the sun until their skins turn black and wrinkled. For oil, the dried berries are crushed and steam distilled. Pepper oil yield is roughly 1% to 3.5% depending on the grade. Black pepper CO2 extract is also available and has a richer, more complete aroma.

Research Interest
Studies have looked at black pepper oil inhalation in smoking-cessation research and at its warming effect in massage. Beta-caryophyllene has also attracted scientific interest. These are research findings only and are not approved health claims.
Safety and Dilution
Black pepper oil can warm and irritate the skin and should always be diluted before use. Like other oils rich in terpenes, it can oxidise over time, so it should be stored in full, tightly closed containers. Use within IFRA standards and food flavour regulations. Keep away from eyes and out of reach of children.
Quality Parameters

Tips for Buyers and Formulators
