Flax Seed Oil is pressed from the seeds of Linum usitatissimum, known in India as alsi. It is one of the richest plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid, which makes it valued in nutrition, cosmetics and specialised industrial uses.

Arizone International supplies Flax Seed Oil in cold-pressed food and cosmetic grades for supplement makers, food companies, cosmetic brands, wholesalers and private label businesses.

Flaxseed Oil vs Linseed Oil

The same seed gives two very different products, and buyers should be clear about which one they need:

  • Food-Grade Flax Seed OilCold-pressed from clean, food-quality seed at low temperature, filtered and packed quickly. Used for nutrition, softgels and cosmetics.
  • Industrial Linseed OilOften solvent-extracted or heat-treated, and sometimes "boiled" with drying agents. Used in paints, varnishes, putty and wood finishes. It must never be used for food or skin care.

Flax oil is a "drying oil": its high ALA content means it reacts with oxygen and slowly hardens into a film. This is exactly why linseed oil has been used by painters for centuries, and also why food-grade flax oil must be protected from air, light and heat.

Composition

  • Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), typically about 50% to 60%
  • Linoleic acid (omega-6) and oleic acid (omega-9)
  • Small amounts of saturated fats
  • Natural tocopherols and, in some unfiltered oils, traces of lignans

Applications

  • Omega-3 softgels and liquid supplements for vegetarians and vegans
  • Salad dressings, smoothies and cold food applications (not for frying)
  • Skin-care oils, serums and creams for dry skin
  • Hair oils and scalp treatments
  • Animal and pet nutrition
  • Private label health oils

Indian Origin

India grows flaxseed mainly in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. In Indian homes, roasted alsi is eaten as a digestive mukhwas and made into winter laddoos, and alsi oil has traditionally been used in some regions for cooking and lamps.

Freshness and Storage

Flax seed oil oxidises faster than most edible oils. We press in small batches, flush containers with nitrogen, and can add natural antioxidants such as vitamin E or rosemary extract on request. Once opened, the oil should be refrigerated and used within a few weeks. A fresh oil smells mild and nutty; a paint-like or fishy smell means it has gone rancid.

Quality Parameters

  • ALA content and fatty acid profile by gas chromatography
  • Peroxide value, acid value and anisidine value
  • Iodine value, which is naturally very high
  • Pesticide residues, heavy metals and moisture
  • Colour, clarity and sensory evaluation

Packaging

We supply in nitrogen-flushed drums, jerry cans and dark bottles for private label. Opaque, airtight packaging is strongly recommended.

Tips for Buyers and Formulators

Flax seed oil is rich in omega-3 and goes rancid quickly, so order in pack sizes you can use within a few weeks of opening, and ask for nitrogen-flushed packing. For softgels, add a natural antioxidant such as mixed tocopherols.

Compliance

ISO 22000:2018 GMP FSSAI HACCP

Flax Seed Oil is best used cold, in dressings or supplements. It is not suitable for frying because its omega-3 fats break down with heat.

Both come from the same seed, but industrial linseed oil used in paints is not food-safe. Food-grade Flax Seed Oil is cold pressed and handled for eating.

Keep Flax Seed Oil in an airtight, dark container, and refrigerate it after opening to slow down rancidity.

Yes. Flax Seed Oil can be supplied virgin or cold-pressed, and in refined grades where a lighter colour and milder smell are needed.

Each batch comes with a COA that covers acid value, peroxide value and other key tests. A fatty acid profile is available on request.

We export Flax Seed Oil from India to buyers in the USA, the UK, the EU, the Middle East, Australia and 40+ other countries. Orders ship by sea or air on EXW, FOB, CIF or DAP terms, with a certificate of analysis and a certificate of origin.
