Arachis Oil
Part of our Oils range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Arachis Oil is the pharmacopoeial name for groundnut or peanut oil, pressed from the seeds of Arachis hypogaea. It is a mild, pale yellow oil with a light nutty scent, used in cooking, cosmetics, massage and pharmaceutical preparations around the world.
Arizone International supplies Arachis Oil in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical grades, cold-pressed or refined, for manufacturers, formulators, wholesalers and private label businesses worldwide.
From Groundnut to Oil
The peanut plant is unusual: after its yellow flowers are pollinated, the flower stalk bends down and pushes the developing pod into the soil, where the nut ripens underground. That is where the name "groundnut" comes from. India is one of the world's largest groundnut producers, and Gujarat, especially the Saurashtra region, is the heart of the Indian groundnut oil trade.
Two main types of oil are produced. Cold-pressed or filtered groundnut oil, often called kachi ghani or wood-pressed oil in India, keeps more flavour and colour. Refined, bleached and deodorised (RBD) oil is lighter, almost odourless and has a higher smoke point, which suits frying, cosmetic and pharmaceutical use.

Allergy Warning
Peanut is one of the most serious food allergens. Refined arachis oil contains very little protein and is tolerated by many people with peanut allergy, but cold-pressed oil can contain enough protein to cause reactions. Products containing arachis oil must be clearly labelled according to local allergen rules, and many pharmaceutical products carry a warning for people with peanut or soya allergy.
Quality Parameters
- Acid value and free fatty acid content
- Peroxide value and oxidative stability
- Iodine value, saponification value and refractive index
- Fatty acid profile by gas chromatography
- Aflatoxin testing, which is essential for groundnut products
- Moisture, impurities and heavy metals
Packaging and Storage
We supply Arachis Oil in drums, jerry cans, tins and bulk tankers, or in retail bottles for private label. Store in closed containers in a cool place away from light to prevent rancidity.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
For pharmaceutical use, specify the pharmacopoeia grade you need (IP, BP or USP) and ask for aflatoxin results on every lot. Because arachis oil comes from peanuts, it must be declared as an allergen on food and cosmetic labels in most markets.
