Lotus Seed Powder is made from the dried seeds of the sacred lotus, Nelumbo nucifera, known in India as kamal gatta. Lotus seeds are a nourishing food in Chinese, Japanese and Indian traditions, and their smooth, mildly sweet powder is used in porridges, sweets, health drinks and traditional preparations.

Arizone International supplies Lotus Seed Powder and whole lotus seeds for food manufacturers, health-food and bakery brands, Ayurvedic companies, wholesalers and exporters.

Kamal Gatta and Lotus Seed Paste

After the lotus flower fades, it leaves a flat, round seed head that looks like a shower head, with seeds set in individual holes. The seeds are harvested, and the hard shell and sometimes the green, bitter inner germ are removed before drying. Lotus seeds are remarkably long-lived: seeds hundreds of years old have been successfully sprouted.

In Chinese cuisine, lotus seeds are cooked into sweet soups and made into lotus seed paste, the classic filling of mooncakes eaten at the Mid-Autumn Festival. In India, kamal gatta is used in Ayurveda and in some traditional sweets and fasting foods.

Lotus Seed vs Makhana

Lotus seeds are often confused with makhana (fox nuts), the puffed white snack from Bihar. Makhana comes from a different water plant, Euryale ferox. Both are nutritious aquatic seeds, but they are not the same. Please specify which one you need.
