Onion Powder is made from dehydrated onions, Allium cepa, milled into a fine, cream to light-brown powder. It delivers the sweet-savoury depth of cooked onion without peeling, chopping or tears, and is one of the most important ingredients in seasonings, snacks, soups, sauces, ready meals and spice blends worldwide.
Arizone International supplies Onion Powder and dehydrated onion in multiple cuts for seasoning and snack manufacturers, food processors, food service, wholesalers and exporters.
India's Dehydrated Onion Hub
India is one of the world's largest onion producers, and it is also a major exporter of dehydrated onion. The Mahuva area in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat is the heart of India's dehydration industry, with many processing units that grow and dry special white onion varieties. White onions are preferred for dehydration because they have higher dry matter and a strong flavour, while red and pink onions are also dehydrated for specific colour and taste needs.
The process involves peeling, washing, slicing and drying the onions in hot air dryers until the moisture is very low, then milling and sieving them into different sizes.

Flavour and Composition
Onion's flavour comes from sulphur compounds formed when its cells are broken. Dehydrated onion keeps much of this character and becomes sweeter and deeper in flavour when cooked. Onion powder also contains natural sugars, fibre (including fructans), quercetin and other flavonoids.

Packaging and Storage
Onion Powder absorbs moisture quickly and can cake. It is packed in food-grade, double-layer poly bags inside cartons, typically 20 kg to 25 kg, and should be stored sealed in a cool, dry place.
Toasted onion powder is also available.
Red onion powder gives a pinkish colour and slightly sharper taste to seasonings and snacks.
Tips for Buyers and Formulators
Onion powder absorbs moisture and can cake, so pack it with a desiccant. For food use, ask for steam-sterilised powder.
