Lemongrass Powder is made from the dried leaves and stalks of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon flexuosus), a tall aromatic grass with a fresh, lemony and slightly gingery aroma. The pale green powder is used in herbal teas, Asian cooking, spice blends, supplements and natural cosmetics.
Arizone International supplies Lemongrass Powder in bulk to tea blenders, spice and food manufacturers, supplement brands, cosmetic companies and exporters.
About Lemongrass
Lemongrass grows in dense clumps and is cultivated in Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and other Indian states, as well as across Southeast Asia. In India it is called gavati chaha or hari chai, and it is often added to masala chai. It is an everyday ingredient in Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian cooking, in soups such as tom yum and in curry pastes. The leaves are cut several times a year, dried in the shade to keep their colour and aroma, and then milled.
Key Compounds
- CitralA mix of geranial and neral that gives lemongrass its lemon scent. It is found in the natural essential oil of the leaves.
- Flavonoids and Phenolic AcidsSuch as luteolin and chlorogenic acid.
- Fibre and MineralsMake up most of the dried leaf.
The aroma of the powder depends on its essential oil content, which is highest when the leaves are dried gently and stored well.
Applications
