Kutki Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Kutki Powder, also called Picrorhiza Kurroa Powder, is a herbal powder made from the rhizome of Picrorhiza kurroa, a traditional Himalayan herb used in Ayurvedic and herbal formulations. Known as Kutki or Katuki, it is recognised for its intense natural bitterness and distinctive phytochemical profile.
Arizone International offers Kutki Powder to herbal manufacturers, Ayurvedic companies, nutraceutical brands, botanical formulators, wholesale traders and private label manufacturers looking for a reliable plant-based ingredient.
What Is Kutki?
Picrorhiza kurroa is a small perennial herb that grows on rocky slopes of the Himalayas, typically between about 3,000 and 5,000 metres, in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Nepal. Its creeping rhizome is the part used in traditional preparations. After harvesting, the rhizome is cleaned, dried and ground into a fine, greyish-brown powder.
The Sanskrit name "Katuka" simply means bitter, and kutki is one of the most bitter herbs in Ayurveda. It is traditionally regarded as a liver herb and appears in classical formulas such as Arogyavardhini Vati. Its main marker compounds are iridoid glycosides called picrosides (picroside I and II), together known as kutkin.

Sustainability and Authenticity
Kutki has been heavily collected from the wild, and it is now considered threatened in parts of the Himalayas. Cultivation programmes are helping to reduce pressure on wild plants. Because of its high value, kutki is sometimes adulterated with other bitter roots, so correct identification and testing of picroside content are important. We work with traceable supply sources and share documentation on request.
Quality and Manufacturing Considerations
- Correct botanical identification and plant part specification
- Proper cleaning and drying of the rhizome
- Controlled moisture and uniform particle size
- Picroside content where specified
- Hygienic processing, moisture-proof packing
- Batch consistency and documentation
