Kanchanar Powder
Part of our Herbs range, manufactured and exported by Arizone International LLP.
Kanchanar Powder is made from the dried bark of Bauhinia variegata, a beautiful flowering tree known as kachnar or the orchid tree. In Ayurveda, Kanchanar bark is best known as the main ingredient in Kanchanar Guggulu, a classical formula traditionally used for glandular swellings and to support the thyroid and lymphatic system.
Arizone International supplies Kanchanar Bark Powder for Ayurvedic manufacturers, herbal companies, wholesalers and exporters.
The Orchid Tree
Bauhinia variegata is a medium-sized tree with distinctive two-lobed leaves shaped like a camel's footprint or butterfly wings. In spring, it bursts into large, fragrant flowers in shades of pink, purple and white that look much like orchids, which is why it is popular in gardens and along avenues. It grows across India, especially in the sub-Himalayan region, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and central India.
In the hills of northern India, the tender flower buds are cooked as a vegetable, kachnar ki kali, and pickled or made into raita. The bark, however, is the part used in Ayurvedic medicine.
Kanchanar in Ayurveda
Ayurvedic texts describe Kanchanar as an astringent herb that helps balance Kapha. Its most famous preparation is Kanchanar Guggulu, which combines kanchanar bark with guggul resin, Triphala, Trikatu and other herbs. This formula is traditionally used for goitre-type swellings, lymph node swellings, cysts and certain skin conditions. Kanchanar bark is also used in decoctions for gargles and in traditional wound care.
