Safed Musli Extract is made from the white, finger-like roots of Chlorophytum borivilianum, a herb native to the forests of central and western India. Safed Musli is a prized Ayurvedic rasayana, traditionally used for strength and vitality, and its extract is a popular ingredient in men's and women's wellness products.
Arizone International supplies Safed Musli Extract for nutraceutical, herbal, cosmetic and food manufacturers, private label brands, wholesalers and bulk buyers. Standardisation, extract ratio, carrier, packaging and quantity can all be set to your specification.
Chlorophytum borivilianum is a small herb that grows wild in the monsoon forests of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat, and is now also cultivated. Its tuberous roots are harvested, peeled and dried.
The roots contain saponins, polysaccharides, alkaloids and other plant compounds. Extracts are usually standardised to saponins, commonly between 20% and 40%, which gives a clear measure of quality.
To make the extract, the dried plant material is cleaned, milled and extracted with water, hydro-alcohol or another suitable solvent. The liquid extract is filtered, concentrated and usually spray-dried into a fine, free-flowing powder. It can then be standardised to a marker compound or supplied as a ratio extract, such as 10:1, and any carrier used, such as maltodextrin, is stated on the specification.
Formulation, dosage, safety assessment, labelling and permitted claims of the finished product must comply with the regulations of the intended market. Safed Musli is generally well tolerated, but pregnant or breastfeeding women and people taking medication should consult a healthcare professional.
Safed Musli is expensive and is sometimes mixed with cheaper Chlorophytum species or starchy roots, so always ask for identity testing.
Ask which method is used for saponins, as gravimetric and HPLC methods give different figures.
Safed Musli extract is commonly used at 250 mg to 500 mg per serving in capsules and tablets, and it is also added to Ayurvedic churnas and powdered drinks. Keep the extract sealed and dry, as its polysaccharides absorb moisture and can make the powder sticky.
Arizone International is an India-based manufacturer, supplier and exporter of herbal extracts, botanical powders, nutraceutical ingredients and private-label products. We support bulk supply, custom standardisation, private label development and export documentation.
