Pomegranate Extract is a concentrated powder made from the peel, seeds or whole fruit of Punica granatum. It is standardised to ellagic acid or punicalagins, the polyphenols that make pomegranate one of the richest sources of natural antioxidants, and it is used in supplements, functional foods and beverages, and skin care.

India and Pomegranate
India is one of the world's largest producers of pomegranates. Maharashtra, especially the Solapur and Nashik regions, grows most of the crop, followed by Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. The Bhagwa variety, with deep red arils and a thick red peel, is the most widely grown. Pomegranate peel, a by-product of juice making, is actually richer in polyphenols than the juice or seeds, which makes it a valuable raw material for extracts.
How Pomegranate Extract Is Made
Dried peel or whole fruit is extracted with water or water-ethanol. The extract is filtered, purified if higher strengths are needed, concentrated and spray dried into a light brown to reddish-brown powder with an astringent taste.
